Frequently asked questions.

Everything parents typically want to know about an in-home newborn circumcision — preparation, the procedure, healing, and aftercare.

General

About the service.

Who will perform my baby's circumcision?

Your baby's circumcision is performed by an experienced My Home Circumcision mohel. Our practice was founded by Rabbi Gadi Levy, a mohel and rabbi, and our mohels have performed over 2,000+ circumcisions. All are trained in both religious and medical circumcision practices, ensuring the safest, most professional, and meaningful experience for all families.

How is circumcision performed?

The procedure involves five steps:

  • Separation — A thin probe gently separates the foreskin from the glans.
  • Measurement & preparation — The appropriate amount of foreskin is determined and carefully secured.
  • Safety shield application — A protective shield is placed to safeguard the glans.
  • Excision — The foreskin is expertly removed.
  • Bandaging & healing — A gentle dressing with a natural healing cream is applied, and you will receive your own to take home.
What makes in-home different from a hospital procedure?

An in-home circumcision provides a calm, private, and comfortable environment for your baby. Unlike hospitals, which may use general anesthesia or extended stays, in-home services are quicker, personal, and tailored to your family's needs and traditions.

Is this available to families of all backgrounds?

Yes. We serve all families, regardless of religious or cultural background. Whether you're seeking circumcision for religious, cultural, or medical reasons, the procedure is performed with the highest level of care.

What method do you use?

Our mohels primarily use the Mogen Clamp — a quick and precise method that minimizes discomfort and promotes faster healing.

What is the cost?

Our in-home circumcision procedure is $1,850. This includes a private consultation, the procedure performed in the comfort of your home, all necessary supplies, detailed aftercare instructions, and ongoing support throughout healing.

Do you offer 8th-day circumcisions?

Yes — provided our travel schedule can accommodate. There is an additional travel cost and an additional $250 procedure fee. Procedure discounts don't apply to 8th-day circumcisions.

Can I use my HSA card?

Some families do. Eligibility and card acceptance are determined by your individual HSA/FSA plan administrator, so we recommend confirming with them before booking. Because the ceremony is performed by a certified mohel rather than a physician, we can't guarantee HSA/FSA eligibility — but we're happy to provide an Itemized Receipt for Insurance Submission (sometimes referred to as a "superbill") upon request.

Do you accept insurance?

At this time, no. Our in-home service is private-pay, which lets us provide personalized, flexible, and timely care in your home. Because the ceremony is performed by a certified mohel and not a physician, no NPI number is available and we don't bill insurance directly — but we provide an Itemized Receipt for Insurance Submission (sometimes referred to as a "superbill") upon request that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Preparation

Before the procedure.

At what age should my baby be circumcised?

The ideal time is between 1–4 weeks old, but our mohels can perform the procedure up to 6 months of age in most cases.

How do I prepare my baby?
  • Feed your baby on schedule
  • Have a clean, calm, well-lit table or counter ready
  • Three diapers and wipes nearby
  • Three stretchy XL swaddle blankets
  • For older babies (3+ months) pain relief such as acetaminophen is recommended
Will my baby feel pain?

Your mohel applies a numbing agent and uses a quick, precise technique to minimize discomfort. The procedure itself lasts under three minutes, and most babies are back in their mother's arms straight after.

Can parents watch?

Yes — parents are encouraged to be present. Some mothers choose to observe, others prefer to step away briefly. We believe strongly in transparency.

Aftercare

Healing & what to expect.

What should I expect in the first few days?

First 3 days:

  • A natural white scab develops around the wound
  • A small amount of blood may be seen in the diaper
  • A yellowish film on the site is normal healing

Days 4–10: Mild redness and swelling go down. Healing is typically complete within 10 days.

How do I care for the site?
  • Apply healing cream at each diaper change to prevent sticking
  • Avoid full baths for the first 48 hours — sponge baths are recommended
When should I be concerned?

Call us or your pediatrician if you notice excessive bleeding (more than a few drops), signs of infection (pus, foul odor, increasing redness), or difficulty urinating (no wet diaper within 12 hours).
